48 hours to arrive, install and remove 3 epic, playable, golf holes at Stamford bridge for Chelsea football club. This job was one of the most rewarding challenges we have taken on, creating bespoke holes to be played by Ruben Loftus Cheek, Wesley Fofana and none other than professional golfer Beef Johnson.
The specification, to bring professional sports personalities from different sports together, to enjoy a game of golf on professionally built holes with our high performance golf green turf. Three individual golf holes which would span across Stamford Bridge, through the changing rooms, along the length of the tunnel and from the pitch through the fan’s seats, to the final hole. Over 85m2 of adventure golf complete with rises and falls, obstacles and area specific theming. From the Chelsea football theme in the changing rooms, through the retro neon tunnel to the coloured chipping hole in the stands, quality built structures were required.
We arrived on the first day of the build starting with construction of the third hole through the fans seating area. With onsite manufacture of several parts of this hole and in situ grassing, it was completed and the enormity of the scale realised. A difficult hole to play, with a secret chipping shot available, which would be used in the filming process.
Holes one and two were the next to be started, working in both the changing rooms and the tunnel. The complete blacking out of the tunnel, was key to the neon show that came to life in this area. A hole that started at the top of one set of steps declined and rose to the flag, placed where the Chelsea footballers usually emerge onto the pitch for their home matches. The changing rooms were transformed into a playing area with bespoke ramps, inclines and obstacles all in the Chelsea colours. What a transformation, what would the players think?
Day two of the build and the finishing touches were put into place before being used in filming with Beef Johnson, ????? and ????. A fun afternoon had by all both playing and watching the build come to life, as we got to know the Chelsea players. The grand finale chip shots, played onto the specifically designed tee grass, showed off the amazing receiving quality of the product. Gaining the stamp of approval from Beef Johnson, who gave great reviews of this.
Finally for the disassemble and to remove everything from site, leaving things just as they had been found. A fantastic experience from start to finish, working to achieve the bespoke golfing, required for such prestigious players of sport is something that we will not forget.
